Chincoteague Ponies is an Original Acrylic Painting done by artist Persis Clayton- Weirs. "A small group of wild ponies explore the beach on Assateague Island off the coasts of Virginia and Maryland." PERSIS WEIRS- was primarily an animal/wildlife painter. As a child and with no formal training, she began drawing horses, then dogs, cats, raccoons, birds, foxes, etc. As a young adult, she was commissioned to paint portraits of racehorses and champion show horses. By the early 1980s, she began focusing on wildlife art. Persis Clayton Weirs passed away in 2016, leaving a legacy of beautiful wildlife art that will be cherished for generations to come.

She had hoped "to share through my work, my respect for wildlife and my sence of responsibility for the quality of the enviroment. If my paintings can pass on to others just a fraction of the pleasure and fascination I find in nature, then i have succeeded" --PERSIS CLAYTON-WEIRS
