Nightwatch - Great Horned Owl - Driftwood and resin sculpture - by Artist Jim Biesinger

Nightwatch - Great Horned Owl - Taking inspiration from a very interesting piece of driftwood, the artist saw in the shape of the extending roots the wings of a great horned owl and the sculpture took life.   An artist and exhibit builder, sculpture has surfaced as Jim Biesinger's favorite form to create artwork.  Each piece is truly a one of a kind creation.

“NIGHT WATCH”

     This linear and tortured piece of wood seemed perfect to capture one of North America‘s largest and secretive birds of prey. This birds nocturnal vision and hunting skills make it one of nights champions of stealth.

     This particular remnant of driftwood with its unique and perforated appearance, led me to transform it into one of the nights most impressive avian stalkers, the Great Horned Owl. 

"As a retired exhibit designer at the Minnesota Zoological Gardens,  I can now fully devote my artistic skills to do what I love in producing my own creations.

I developed a passion for wildlife and art in my youth.  A life observing and working with animals has fine-tuned my skills in capturing their form, movement and spirit.

Recently, driftwood has provided a perfect canvas to adapt, morph and elaborate the movement and rhythm I like to express in my sculptures.  In this sculpture of a sable antelope, the driftwood suggested an elegance with it's sweeping motion, bends and twists.  I quickly saw it take form into the striking, impressive and majestic creature it is.

I hope my art will inspire the viewer to appreciate and protect the beauty and gift of wildlife.  - Jim Biesinger"
