Fred McCormick: MIST ON THE LEDGES (20 x 16) Oil on Panel Painting

MIST ON THE LEDGES is an original oil painting by artist Fred McCormick. Fredric I. McCormick was moved by the impulse “to draw things the way they really look” at an early age. His artwork done in pencil drawing advanced rapidly, and by his teen years it was decided that private painting instruction would broaden his skill. Fred has worked in a number of media (oil, watercolor, acrylic, and pencil), and has taken awards in a number of competitions. Almost all of Fred’s subject matter has been drawn from the environs of Mount Desert Island on the coast of Maine, an island which he calls “my favorite place in the whole world.” 

"While the impulse toward realism runs very deep in me, and at times seems utterly inescapable, it is offset by a drive to be always exploring and experimenting in the realms of style and technique. I am especially fascinated by the fusion of realism (life-like color and light values) with loose and painterly brush work. Landscape painting lends itself beautifully to this pursuit. I also have something of a mania for the illusion of depth and sometimes have to tamp down my drive to produce this trompe d'oeil quality. My goal in painting is to touch viewers in a way that engages them on multiple levels and holds their attention, yielding something fresh and enlivening each time they return look again."-- FRED MCCORMICK
