Richard Aasness is a woodturner who lives in Andover, Minnesota.  As a longtime cabinet maker, Aasness has a long familiarity with working wood. As a turner he focuses on exploring unique grain structure such as Birch root flares or burls, Walnut crotch grain or spalted wood that while beautiful is not chosen for cabinetry. Many of Richard's works are larger pieces with natural live edges and voids.  Each piece requires careful selection and attention to the natural forms of the wood to bring the best out of his craftsmanship and the natural beauty of the wood.
