ONE OF A KIND- CUT GLASS PIECE
This beautiful BOWL - ON WOOD LOG STAND sits perfectly on a wooden log stand and is another stunning cut glass art piece from our very talented local Cut Glass artist Carl Miller. It includes cuttings of Viking ships from over 1,000 years later to the Swedish Warship- Vasa with sailing ships of Nordic Maritime. This is a stunning slightly angled glass bowl sitting upon a log base.
The Vasa was a Swedish warship built in the 17th century that famously sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. It was salvaged in 1961 and is now a well-preserved museum ship in Stockholm. The ship's sinking was attributed to being top-heavy, with too much weight in its upper structure, and it was also built without proper stability testing. After initial unsuccessful attempts, the Vasa was salvaged in 1961. The Vasa was commissioned by King Gustavus Adolphus in 1625, during the Thirty Years' War, to bolster Sweden's naval power. The ship sank in Stockholm harbor after sailing only about 1,300 meters (1,400 yards) on its maiden voyage. The Vasa was built with insufficient stability, due to the king's insistence on a two-gun-deck design with numerous cannons and ornate decorations. The ship's stability was also not adequately tested before its maiden voyage.
